Beyond VAWA:  Using research to explore the potential of other public policies to reduce violence against women” will be presented by Shelley Golden, MPH, on the afternoon of Friday, September 28.  This presentation will focus on the results of two recent studies; one evaluating the relationship between alcohol excise taxes and female homicide rates, using 15 years of state data; and the other examining how household economics, gender beliefs, and neighborhood factors influence three types of intimate partner violence.  Although the Violence Against Women Act (VAWA) may be the most recognizable violence prevention policy initiative, other policies likely impact rates of intimate partner violence as well.
