Each week, Say NO – UNiTE to End Violence against Women features a different video on the group’s YouTube page. This week’s (Oct. 28-Nov. 4) featured video, “Side by Side – Women, Peace and Security,” explores the Security Council Resolution #1325 on women, peace and security, adopted 12 years ago.
This documentary highlights gaps between commitment and action. (Here is the link to the individual video.) It also explores the positive steps taken to bridge that divide and build a sustainable peace. UN Secretary General Ban Ki Moon gives an introduction, and the film also features interviews from activists, policy makers, mediators, and survivors of conflict. Topics include specialized training arranged for peacekeepers and the the strengthening of mechanisms that hold perpetrators accountable for gender-based violations.
